Scientific information specialist

Will you become our new colleague with an interest in the latest developments in the (digital) information world and would you like to develop into a Scientific Information Specialist in the field of medical and biomedical sciences? In this position, you will work from a team at the University Library (UB) mainly for staff and students of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML) and the Maastricht University Medical Centre (MUMC+). In coordination with the faculty, you teach (digital) information skills to undergraduate and graduate students of the medical programmes. You are also active in providing support and advice on the acquisition and use of scientific information sources to lecturers, researchers and medical specialists at FHML, MUMC+ and the Maastricht Academy of Obstetrics (AVM). You will also supervise PhDs and other researchers in carrying out systematic literature reviews and provide training in this area. Based on your interests and experience, you can collaborate on innovative projects such as digital literacy, AI in education, Open Science in Education and AI in literature review.

You will be engaged in:

  • developing and delivering training courses, workshops and online modules in (digital) information literacy;
  • drawing up and evaluating the collection profile of FHML, MUMC+, AVM and advising on and facilitating the FHML, MUMC+, AVM collection (e.g. learning resources, databases, Read & Publish deals);
  • inventory and advising on the use and possibilities of FAIR open digital learning resources (OER) within FHML, MUMC+ and AVM;
  • developing and giving workshops and online modules for systematic literature reviews and guiding students/PhDs/researchers in performing systematic literature reviews;
  • building and maintaining a network, both within the faculty (FHML), MUMC+, AVM, UM and (inter)nationally;
  • initiating, coordinating and contributing to innovation projects in line with the needs of UM staff for new policies and services at the University Library.

We are looking for you if you want to contribute to services for our students and teachers. You are open, proactive and can work well together in different teams. You are closely involved with the client and sensitive to the environment. In addition, you are analytical, results-oriented and are good at putting ideas into practice.

Furthermore, you have:

  • at least a completed master's degree in a medical, biomedical or comparable domain (PhD is an advantage);
  • experience with using relevant bibliographies, databases and search engines for the (bio)medical or similar scientific domain;
  • experience in developing and delivering education, including in online learning environments and with e-learning modules;
  • experience or affinity with conducting systematic reviews is an advantage;
  • a very good command of Dutch and English (level C1).

AsSpecialist Wetenschappelijke Informatieat Universiteits Bibliotheek, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 10 according to UFO profile Specialist Wetenschappelijke Informatie, with c orresponding salary based on experience ranging from €3226,00 and €5090,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 1.0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
